RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR OPERATIONS

  • No participant may operate any power equipment without completing the Woodshop Safety Orientation in the shop.

  • Everyone must sign in and sign out.

  • It is highly recommended that each participant read and re-read the Safety Manual on a regular basis.

  • No person under the influence of or using alcohol or drugs will be allowed in the shop.

  • If you see something unsafe, say something.

  • Respiratory and hearing protection are highly recommended when a participant is working in the Woodshop and required for specific machinery.  Eye protection is mandatory.  

  • Proper clothing and footwear are required at all times.

  • No loose clothing is allowed around the machines.

  • Long hair shall be tied back.

  • Flammable liquids or flammable finishing materials may not be used in the shop.

  • Participants should clean up the work area of all tools, scrap material and sawdust before leaving.

  • Know the machine. Make sure it is clear of debris before turning it on.  Respect it, and don't be in a hurry.

  • Use the right tool for the job.

  • Never force a power tool.

  • Do not reach over machines.

  • Keep hands away from the cutting area.

  • Never leave a tool running.

  • Turn the machine off and wait for the blade to stop and unplug the machine before making adjustments.

  • Be sure all knobs and safety features are secure and engaged before operating machines.

  • Never pick up small cut off pieces from the table while the blade is still running.

  • Participants may only use the shop during the designated times.

  • The best safety device is a careful worker.


WOODSHOP POLICY FOR YOUR SAFETY

In order to avoid accidents and ensure the safety of our participants:

A participant operating the woodshop equipment in an unsafe manner whose judgment is questionable or whose skills and abilities seem to be impaired will be directed to stop working and required to retake the safety course.
