HOME / CLASSES
Description:
Basic Woodworking is a 5-week course with over 24 hours of hands-on instruction, designed to open the door to the wide (and wonderful) world of woodworking. This class focuses on building strong foundations—skills, safety, and confidence—so you can work independently and successfully in the shop.
Students will learn how to properly square up rough materials, perform accurate stock layout and measuring, and understand wood movement—the “why” behind how wood behaves. From there, we’ll dive into essential joinery, including box joints, rabbet joints, and dado joints, giving you the building blocks used in real-world woodworking projects.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with major shop machines, including (but not limited to) the table saw, jointer, planer, drill press, band saw, and sanders, with a strong emphasis on safe and correct operation. We’ll also cover key power hand tools such as the router and oscillating sander, along with an introduction to one of the most satisfying and versatile categories of woodworking tools—hand tools.
To round things out, the class covers sanding techniques, surface preparation, and finishing, ensuring your projects don’t just function well—they look great too.
After completing the first four weeks of class, students will receive one month of shop access, allowing you to practice your new skills, begin personal projects, and gain confidence working independently.
