What does “sharp” really mean—and how do you get there? In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to properly sharpen essential woodworking edge tools like chisels and plane irons for clean, precise, frustration-free results in the shop. We’ll focus primarily on using sharpening stones, while also covering the basics of powered sharpening methods and when they make sense.

You’ll learn how to flatten backs, set bevel angles, hone an edge, and maintain your tools so they stay sharp longer.

This class is perfect for beginners who want to build good habits, as well as experienced woodworkers looking to dial in their sharpening process.

If you have one, bring a plane iron, bench chisel, spokeshave iron, or drawknife to sharpen (nothing heavily damaged). We’ll also have practice tools available.

We don't cover knives or carving tools though the same techniques can be applied.
